David A. Schwedel
David A. Schwedel is the General Partner and Founder of DAS Family Holdings, L.P. He has been involved in all phases of the partnership's development and approves all corporate finance commitments by the partnership.
Mr. Schwedel is a lifetime entrepreneur. He started his first business at the age of 13, Florida Marine Services, which five years later was sold successfully to a South Florida marine business with more than 100 registered customers. During College, Mr. Schwedel co-founded a graphic design studio, Advance Graphics, which under his leadership grew into a full-service advertising agency with national accounts, providing print and electronic media solutions.
Mr. Schwedel began his corporate finance career in 1986 at the OLMC group of companies, a Miami, Florida venture capital firm where he was an instrumental part of building the group's assets from $30 million to more than $300 million in less than five years. He was eventually promoted to Senior Vice President, and a member of the Investment Committee. In 1992, Mr. Schwedel founded Florida Marine Management, Inc., (MAREX) which he personally funded with less than $2 million. Over the next seven years, Mr. Schwedel grew the company to become a NASDAQ listed company with a $550 million enterprise value.
Since 2005, under Mr. Schwedel’s direction, DAS Family Holdings has developed an investment strategy that focuses on diverse industries including healthcare, energy, & technology. He was the lead investor for Synthesis Energy Systems, Inc. a publicly traded energy and technology company that builds, owns and operates coal gasification plants that utilize a proprietary technology to convert waste coal into higher value energy products, such as transportation fuel. In 2007, Mr. Schwedel served as the lead investor in Medical Technologies Unlimited, Inc., a company that designs and manufactures medical devices and incorporates innovative technologies to deliver services to patients, physicians, insurers and employers. Most recently, Mr. Schwedel has launched an initiative to develop business in Latin America where particular opportunities exist to provide finance solutions to complex cross-border transactions.
Mr. Schwedel is a member or advocate of several Florida charitable organizations including the Florida Children's Home Society, Miami Children's Hospital, and is a Trustee of the Miami Science Museum. Mr. Schwedel is a third generation Miami, Florida resident where he lives with his family.
